On Friday, the 10th of September 2021, The UK Visa and Immigration department at the Home Office has announced further updates to the following Immigration Categories:
- International Sportsperson Route (Starting from October 2021)
- Global Talent Visa
The above routes are introduced and updated to attract the brightest and the best to the United Kingdom. This is all part of the UK Government’s New Immigration Plan, as outlined by the Secretary Priti Patel:
We want to attract the world’s greatest minds at the crowning point of their careers, so the UK remains number one on the global leader board in sports, the arts, science, film, and technology sectors.
Through our points-based system we focus on talent and skills, not where someone comes from, and the immigration changes we’re making today demonstrate this, making it much easier for the brightest and best to live and work in the UK.
The international Sportsperson Route will allow the Sportspeople and their sponsors to come to the UK under a simplified visa process for 12 months or less.
While the Global Talent visa has now been updated to include 73 prestigious Awards as listed below categories:
- Science, engineering, humanities and medicine: Benjamin Franklin Medal, Faraday Medal, L’Oréal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science, various Wolf Prize categories
- Arts and culture: the Booker Prize, various Queen Elizabeth Competition categories, International Dublin Literary Award
- Film and television: best supporting actor and actress across the Academy Awards, BAFTA and Golden Globes
Talented individuals who are holding a qualifying price will be able to fast-track their endorsement application and make a single application for their Global talent Visa for 1 to 5 years.
