What is the Student Visa?

A UK Student Visa allows international students to study in the UK if they are 16 or over and meet specific eligibility requirements.

Who is eligible for a UK Student Visa?

To be eligible, you must have been offered a place on a course by a licensed student sponsor, have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course, can speak, read, write, and understand English, and have consent from your parents if you’re 16 or 17.

How do I apply for a UK Student Visa?

You must apply online for a Student Visa. The application process includes proving your identity and providing necessary documents.

What documents do I need to apply for a UK Student Visa?

Required documents include a current passport or other valid travel documentation, a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your course provider, proof of funds, and proof of parental or other legal guardian consent if you’re under 18.

Can I bring my family with me on a UK Student Visa?

You may be able to bring your partner and children (dependants) with you are undertaking a PhD or other doctoral qualification or a research-based higher degree (such as a Masters by Research MScR) you are studying a full-time programme of at least six months and are receiving a national government issued financial scholarship or sponsorship.

What are the English language requirements for a UK Student Visa?

You must prove your knowledge of the English language is at B2 or above for degress and B1 or above for below degree courses when you apply. This usually means passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider

How much money do I need to show for a UK Student Visa?

To meet the financial requirements for a UK Student Visa, you need to show that you have enough money to cover your course fees and living costs:

Course Fees:
You must have enough money to pay for your course fees for the first year of your course or for the entire course if it is less than a year long.

Living Costs:
Studying in London: £1,334 per month for up to 9 months.
Studying outside London: £1,023 per month for up to 9 months.

How can I prove I have the required funds?

You can prove you have the required funds through:

Bank Statements: Showing the money has been in your account for at least 28 consecutive days.

Student Loan: A letter from your student loan provider confirming the loan.

Official Financial Sponsorship: A letter from your sponsor confirming your sponsorship.

Are there any exceptions on a Student Visa related to funds?

You do not need to prove you have money to support yourself if you have been in the UK with a valid visa for at least 12 months before you apply for a Student Visa, or if you are applying as a student union sabbatical officer.

Do I have to show funds for Dependents on Studnet Visa?

Yes you do, If you are bringing dependants, you will need additional funds to support them

Will the Student Visa funds change if i paid the Course Fees?

Yes, If you have already paid some or all of your course fees, this can be deducted from the amount you need to show.

What evidence is required to prove the relationship with a dependant?

Applicants must provide documentation confirming the relationship, such as marriage certificates for spouses or civil partners, proof of cohabitation for unmarried partners, and birth certificates for children.

What can I do on a UK Student Visa?

You can study, work as a student union sabbatical officer, and in some cases, work part-time during term time and full-time during vacations. However, you cannot claim public funds, work in certain jobs, or be self-employed

What should I do if my UK Student Visa application is complex and takes longer?

If your application is complex and takes longer, for example, because your supporting documents need to be verified or you need to attend an interview, you will be contacted by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

What is the duration of the visa for dependants?

The visa for dependants will usually end on the same date as the main applicant’s visa. If the parents have visas with different expiry dates, the child’s visa will end on the earlier date (of the main applicant)

Are there any age restrictions for children to qualify as dependants?

Children must be under 18 to apply as dependants, unless they are already in the UK as dependants. Children aged 16 or over must live with the applicant, not be married or have children, and be financially supported by the applicant

What happens if my Student Visa is refused?

You can challenge the refusal by either doing an Administrative Review, an appeal, reapply for the application or send in a reconsideration request.

What is a Student Visa Admin Review?

If you believe there was a mistake in the decision, you can apply for an administrative review. This must be done within 28 days if you applied from outside the UK, or within 14 days if you applied from within the UK.

Can I appeal a Student Visa refusal?

In some cases, you may have the right to appeal the decision. Your refusal letter will specify if you have this right and provide instructions on how to proceed.
