What is a Frontier Worker Permit?
A Frontier Worker Permit is for eligible people who work in the UK but live in another country. It is particularly relevant to EU, EEA and Swiss citizens who started working in the UK before the end of the Brexit transition period and have continued to maintain a qualifying pattern of UK work.
For UK employers and overseas businesses, the route can preserve continuity for cross-border workers, consultants or self-employed professionals who are not based in the UK. It is not a general work visa for new UK workers who started after 31 December 2020.
GOV.UK says the permit allows the holder to enter the UK as a frontier worker and prove relevant rights, including right to work and right to rent online. Family members are not covered by the permit, although they may have separate options under the EU Settlement Scheme.
