The types of sponsor licences businesses will need to make will depend on the immigration route that the overseas worker is seeking to be sponsored to work on. Each type of licence has its own specific requirements. Below are the list of Sponsor Licences in the UK: 

Workers Sponsor Licence

Skilled Worker Licence

A Skilled Worker Sponsor Licence is a licence that allows UK employers to hire migrant workers legally. A sponsorship licence is given for an initial duration of 4 years and may be extended if the company wishes to continue to sponsor any non-EEA nationals. To obtain a skilled worker licence, you have to submit an application to the Home Office (UKVI). Sponsor licence holders must also meet certain compliance duties when hiring and employing migrant workers. Applications for skilled worker sponsor licences are processed in around 8 weeks.

Ministers of Religion Licence

A Ministers of Religion Licence is a licence that allows religious organisations to hire people to perform mainly a pastoral role within religious establishment in the United Kingdom.  A Minister of Religion Licence allows people to come to the UK to work for a religious organisation. A sponsorship licence is valid for four years. To keep the sponsorship permit, the sponsor needs to renew the licence before it expires.

International Sportsperson

An International Sportsperson Licence is the licence that is specifically designed to allow organisations in the UK to sponsor individuals to undertake a job as an elite sportsperson or qualified coach. Seasonal Worker Licence

Global Business Mobility Licences

The Global Business Mobility Sponsor License is the approval granted by the UK Home Office to support a particular category of GBM worker. The Global Business Mobility (GBM) licence allow genuine and eligible organisations to sponsor workers to undertake sponsored assignments. A valid sponsorship certificate for a foreign worker may only be given out once the sponsor has been given authorisation for a licence for the relevant GBM route. A sponsor licence for Global Business Mobility is valid for four years. There are 5 subcategories to this licence

Senior or Specialist Worker Visa

A Senior or Specialist Worker visa enables foreign nationals to enter or remain in the UK to do an eligible job at the UK branch of their business. This is for specialist employees and senior managers who will undertake a temporary assignment in the UK. This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (Intra-company Transfer visa, which was formerly issued. This route does not lead to settlement. However, applicant can switch into another route that leads to settlement.

Expansion Worker Visa

A UK Expansion Worker visa is for specialist employees and senior managers. It allows the applicant to come to the UK to set up a branch of an overseas business that has not started trading in the UK yet. This route does not lead to settlement. However, applicant can switch into another route that leads to settlement.

Secondment Worker Visa

A Secondment Worker visa for foreign employees seeking temporary secondment to the UK by their international employer as part of a high-value contract. This route does not lead to settlement. However, applicant can switch in to another route that leads to settlement.

Service Supplier Visa

The Service Supplier Visa is a form of Global Business Mobility Visa (GBM) that enables foreign nationals working for service providers or as independent contractors, who need to be in the UK to provide services covered by one of the UK’s international trade commitments, to come to the UK temporarily. This route does not lead to settlement. However, applicant can switch in to another route that leads to settlement.

Graduate Trainee Visa

The Graduate Trainee Visa is intended for foreign employees who seek to be sent to the United Kingdom for a work placement as part of a graduate training course leading to a senior managerial post by their employer. This route will not lead to settlement. However, the applicant may choose another route that leads to settlement.
